🌷Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors🌷
Wow. I read this book in 2 days because I was entirely addicted. After seeing it everywhere I decided to download it on my kindle and I was not disappointed!! I don't remember the last time I was this hooked on a book and I can't stop thinking about it. Sometimes the hype is right!
Following the whirlwind marriage between 24 year old Cleo and 45 year old Frank, this is the story of a couple trying to preserve their life together amidst the backdrop of NYC’s social pressures, complex friendships and mental health battles. While both Cleo and Frank are dealing with their own struggles, both with themselves and others, they find that their connection is going to be tested in more ways than they expected.
The chaos of the New York City party scene is emulated throughout the story, with our main characters drifting in and out of this world and all of the high stakes it brings in its path. There are some great friendships, some challenging ones, and even some that have you wanting to shout at the page.
It is sad and funny and glamorous and insightful and just one of those stories you can’t put down. Their world is so immersive and chaotic that you just always want to know what is going to happen next to Cleo and Frank, and those around them. I particularly loved Santiago as a character, and getting to see more of his perspective as the novel developed was really fascinating.
I highly recommend this book if you are looking for that totally addictive summer read, and I will definitely be picking up Mellors' next novel!
