In the cobbled streets of Québec City, amongst jazz bars, cafes, boutiques and the funicular, you will find an array of lovely little bookshops, both new and old.

Strolling around the old town there are plenty of spots which offer charming book selections tucked away along the street. There are new releases, classics, books about French Canadian history and culture, and a great choice of second hand titles. There is something for everyone and the shops themselves are steeped in the rich history and architecture of the city.

On Rue St-Jean, the bustling main street of the city, you’ll find Librairie Pantoute, a modern bookshop with the latest releases in both French and English. Browse across all genres and authors in this spacious bookshop, and purchase a book to read in a cosy cafe down the road.

I loved visiting Québec City and discovering more about this coast of Canada and it’s history. With national parks, a waterfall, shopping districts, a castle and just a 2 hour drive to vibrant Montréal, this is definitely a great spot for your bucket list, especially a bookish one!
